The Arts University Plymouth Charitable Trust (Registered Charity: 1118878) is the University’s dedicated charitable trust with a mission to support current and future students of the University, and widen participation and diversity across its pre-degree and degree level courses.
Founded in 1856 as Plymouth Institution of Art, the Institution was granted full university status with a new title of Arts University Plymouth in May 2022. This made it the City of Plymouth’s first specialist arts university, home to a dynamic, cross-disciplinary community of makers and thinkers.
Jenefer Peter and Mary Peter Bursary
Originally the Trust was set up following a bequest from Jenefer Peter and Mary Peter.
This permanent endowment was established in memory of the Cornish sisters. Jenefer was an artist and Mary was the College’s Art historian from 1965 to her retirement in 1982. The gift was made to the charity on the condition that the College invests the capital so as to establish a Trust Fund and to use the income there to provide bursaries for students who are in financial need.
The Gerrard Bequest
This expendable endowment was established following receipt of a bequest on the death of Mrs Gerrard in 1995. Her remaining works and the paintings of her husband, Charles Gerrard who died in 1964, were auctioned and the sum raised was gifted to the charity.
